No Swedish region reaches an expert benchmark for migraine diagnoses in specialist care, while access to newer preventive treatment varies sharply between regions, an analysis of official data shows.

SVT's analysis says about 1.5 million people in Sweden have migraine. Among patients who eventually reach specialist care, the average time from onset to diagnosis is 13 years, according to the latest Swedish Headache Registry report.
Stockholm records more than twice as many specialist diagnoses per 100,000 working-age residents as Dalarna. Gotland is the only region above the expert group's minimum level for CGRP treatment; Värmland's treatment rate is one third of Gotland's.
Socialstyrelsen says migraine care remains unequal and plans national guidelines in 2027. A separate government review will examine how first-line care can better meet women's needs, including for migraine.
