Netflix actor Mohammed Nour Oklah faces deportation risk in Sweden

Netflix actor Mohammed Nour Oklah is waiting to learn whether the life he built in Malmö can continue after Sweden's Migration Agency began reviewing his protection status.

Oklah told Kulturnytt that he received a letter three days after his Kristallen nomination. Sveriges Radio later corrected its report to say his right to stay and his protection status are under investigation, not that they have already been revoked. No final removal decision has been reported.

He fled Syria 11 years ago and works as a caretaker at Malmö Latin school. His role in the Netflix crime series Synden brought him a nomination for best male actor in a television series.

Hundreds of students later demonstrated outside Malmö City Hall. One student said their protest also reflected broader concern that deportations had gone too far.

The Migration Agency says a person may receive an extension if they still need protection, qualify through family ties or meet the demanding test of exceptionally distressing circumstances. Individual cases depend on the evidence before the agency. For Oklah, that assessment carries the possibility of leaving the country where he works and began an acting career.
