MP wants SEK 6bn restored for greener city travel
Sweden's Green Party wants to spend SEK 1.5 billion a year, or SEK 6 billion over the next four-year term, restoring grants for greener city travel.

The proposed city-environment agreements would let municipalities and regions seek state co-financing for walking, cycling and public transport. MP says urban greenery could accompany those measures but could not receive funding alone.
Trafikverket says the programme began in 2015. The Government stopped making new awards from 2024, while existing agreements continue.
The 2026 budget recorded 92 active agreements at the end of 2024 and SEK 440 million paid that year. The current national transport plan reserves SEK 4.7 billion for agreements already signed through 2032.
MP says earlier agreements increased daily walking, cycling and public-transport use while cutting 60,000 car trips and 34,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year. Those are the party's figures and DailySweden has not independently reproduced them.
MP has not published a project list or identified the budget line or tax that would fund the proposal. The plan is an election pledge, not an adopted budget or an open grant round.
