Ulf Kristersson says no negotiations are under way for a centre-right government, although he is holding private conversations that he believes could prove useful.

The Moderate leader spoke on Wednesday after Christian Democrat leader Ebba Busch said talks were taking place about a centre-right alternative. Svenska Dagbladet reported his distinction between those contacts and formal negotiations.

Kristersson said he was ready to test a non-socialist government if parliamentary conditions changed. For now, he said, 176 MPs wanted a Social Democrat-led government.

Speaking to Sveriges Radio, he declined to identify his private contacts and described all available government solutions as highly unlikely.
