Fewer students leaving Sweden's municipal adult education gained an established position in the labour market in 2024. The decline was sharpest among the youngest learners, while health and care courses recorded the strongest vocational results.

Among students who finished longer vocational courses in 2023, 56% were established in work a year later, down two percentage points from the previous cohort. The figure was 48% after shorter courses, also down two points, according to Skolverket's statistics, published on 29 October.

The measure requires more than having a job. In 2024 it meant earnings of at least SEK 243,400, employment in November and no recorded full- or part-time unemployment or labour-market training during the year.

For students aged 20–24, the establishment rate fell four percentage points. Skolverket identifies the weaker labour market and economic downturn in 2024 as possible explanations.

Health and care had the highest vocational establishment rates: 71% after longer courses and 59% after shorter ones.

The follow-up also shows progress over time. Among those who finished longer vocational courses in 2022, 61% were established in work two years later.
