A person on the Christian Democrats' candidate list for Kiruna's municipal election is leaving the party after his earlier involvement with the neo-Nazi Nordic Resistance Movement was reported.
SVT, citing the newspaper NSD, said the person had been active locally in the movement eight to ten years ago, including distributing leaflets and putting up stickers. The report also described more recent social-media posts in which he called Britain fascist and alleged bias by British police.
Christian Democrat group leader Krister Pounu said those recent posts led to a serious conversation and the decision to leave. Pounu said the person was deeply remorseful and that it was difficult to assess how much the case had damaged the local party.
SVT did not name the person. Its report also did not confirm whether the election list had already been formally changed, so leaving the party should not be treated as proof that the administrative list process is complete.
