Hidden phones may reveal themselves during Sweden’s alert test
People who keep a phone hidden from an abusive or controlling partner are being urged to switch it off before Sweden tests its SE-Alert warning system on Monday, 7 September.

Roks warned that the test message will make compatible phones sound and vibrate even when they are set to silent. That could expose a concealed device used to seek help or maintain private contact.
The test is scheduled for 15:00 in Stockholm and Gotland. Phones in neighbouring areas may also receive it because mobile-network coverage does not follow county borders precisely.
The responsible authorities say the alert requires no app or registration. A phone must be switched on, updated and connected to a mobile network to receive the test.
Anyone whose safety depends on keeping a device undiscovered should consider switching it off before the test. In an immediate emergency, call 112.
