The Greens and Liberals have set out opposing objections to the Centre leader’s proposed government, exposing the difficulty of assembling support before her 26 October deadline.

Green spokesperson Daniel Helldén told TV4 Nyheterna that the centre option was a dead end, though testing it could allow talks to move on. His party still wants a red-green government focused on climate, welfare and equality.

Liberal leader Simona Mohamsson welcomed Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist’s exploratory mandate for a different reason: she wants to test support among non-socialist parties for Ulf Kristersson. If the aim is a Social Democrat-led government, she says the Liberals would be in opposition.

Thand Ringqvist has said that Magdalena Andersson is the most likely prime minister in the centre government she envisages. She plans to speak to all party leaders.

Left Party leader Nooshi Dadgostar told TV4 that testing the Centre option could establish whether it exists in parliament and let the process move forward. None of those responses amounts to an agreement on a governing coalition.
