The Green Party in Timrå is campaigning to pause the proposed sale of Torsboda Industrial Park to Google until Sweden has a national strategy for large, power-intensive data centres.
Viktoria Skoog, the party's lead candidate in Timrå, told SVT that the agreement is moving too quickly and could have national consequences for electricity use. The party has launched a petition against the current plan.
The Green Party holds no seats in either Timrå or Sundsvall council, so it cannot vote on the transaction. Municipal executive committees are expected to consider it on 10 August, followed by council decisions the next week in both municipalities.
Torsboda's board has proposed selling the entire municipal company to Google. The company says the deal would transfer future infrastructure costs to Google and bring proceeds to the owner municipalities. No vote has yet approved the sale, and the local campaign does not itself stop the decision process. A fresh response from the council parties backing the deal was not available in SVT's report.
