Speaker gives parties until Monday for next government step

Sweden’s parties will continue informal government talks over the weekend, with Speaker Andreas Norlén due to announce the next step at 13:30 on Monday 19 October.
Norlén gave the new timetable on Friday after speaking to party representatives by phone. He said parties could hold constructive discussions without a formal exploratory mandate.
The announcement follows Parliament’s rejection of Magdalena Andersson as prime minister on Thursday. MPs voted against her nomination by 248 to 99.
Friday’s statement did not name a new nominee or give anyone a new formal mandate to explore forming a government. The immediate task remains with the parties: continue their discussions before the Speaker sets out how the process will proceed.
