Gothenburg marks a year without a fatal shooting

Gothenburg has gone one year without a fatal shooting. The last was on 9 September 2025, when a man was shot dead on Hisingen.

Gunfire has been confirmed twice since, but no one was killed or injured, GP reported. Hampus Nygårds, head of Police Region West, called the break from the earlier trend unique.

But Nygårds warned that the underlying crime remains. Violent assignments are still being circulated, and children and young adults are still recruited to carry them out. In 2013, the worst year, Greater Gothenburg recorded 56 shootings; 30 people were wounded and eight killed.
