Gothenburg’s Västlänken carries its first passenger train
Gothenburg’s Västlänken tunnel carried its first passenger train on Friday, when a Västtrafik test service entered the new underground platforms at Gothenburg Central.

Sveriges Radio, whose reporter travelled on the train, said the test took place in the first section of the long-delayed rail project.
Public service is due to begin on 13 December. Västtrafik says the underground part of Gothenburg Central will open with four tracks, initially serving trains on the Gothenburg–Alingsås and Gothenburg–Älvängen lines.
The complete Västlänken is not expected until around 2030. When the Haga and Korsvägen stations are finished, regional and commuter trains will be able to run through central Gothenburg instead of turning at the existing terminus. Friday’s journey was a test, not the start of public service.
