Göteborg-Alingsås trains reopen Monday despite cable thefts
Trains between Göteborg and Alingsås are set to resume on Monday after an eight-week shutdown, despite repeated cable thefts that Trafikverket says delayed work on the Western Main Line.

All rail traffic on the stretch has been closed since 22 June for a major track upgrade. Trafikverket said Friday that cables had been stolen on several occasions during the works, including critical components installed by signalling staff, and has reported the incidents to police.
From 17 August, Jonsered, Sävenäs and Aspedalen stations reopen and services will run hourly, according to Västtrafik. The route will still operate with reduced capacity because work continues on one track. Between Alingsås and Göteborg, the planned weekday service is one SJ Regional train and two Västtåg services per hour.
Some replacement buses will remain, and further full weekend closures are planned. Travellers should check their operator's journey planner before departure.
Trafikverket says the line links Sweden’s two largest cities and carries passenger and freight trains, making Monday's reopening relevant beyond local commuting.
