Parts of Gävleborg could receive 60–100mm of rain before Friday morning, with a risk of flooded basements and roads. SMHI’s yellow rain warning runs from 10am on Thursday 8 October until 3am on Friday.

Rain is expected to become heavy at times during Thursday, with large amounts possible over short periods locally from the evening. The forecast also warns of very strong gusts overnight and into Friday morning.

The official warning advises residents to clear gutters, drains and other routes for water to escape. Check whether you can keep water out of your basement and move belongings that could be damaged.

Drivers should avoid flooded roads and underpasses. Poor visibility and aquaplaning could make journeys slower and more dangerous, so allow extra time and adjust your speed.

The warning covers parts of the county, rather than all of Gävleborg. Check SMHI’s warning map for the latest boundaries and timing before travelling.
