Extra Swedish income can leave tax unpaid when the payer is not your main payer. Skatteverket says the employer or pension payer that pays you the most uses the tax table, while other payers normally deduct 30 percent.
That difference matters for people who move between jobs, take consulting shifts, work evenings beside a salaried role, or receive taxable pension or benefit income. Each payer may be following its own rule correctly, while the combined deduction may be too low for your total yearly income.
The first check is simple: identify your main payer. That is the employer or pension payer expected to pay the highest amount during the year. If another payer is deducting only 30 percent and your total income is rising, do not wait until the declaration arrives.
Skatteverket says people with several payers can ask a payer to deduct more tax, or apply for jämkning when they want the agency to calculate the right deduction. A jämkning decision tells payers how much to deduct based on the figures you gave.
Students and young workers have an extra timing point. The student jämkning page says an application for the current year can be made at any time, but no later than 30 November. It also says the decision is normally sent within about two weeks, and the employer must follow it from the first payment made two weeks after receiving it.
If too little tax has already been deducted, residual tax must be booked to your tax account by the due date in the final tax statement. For 2026 statements, Skatteverket lists due dates including 14 September for June statements, 12 November for August statements, and 12 March 2027 for December statements.
The line to watch is SEK 2,000. Skatteverket says a tax-account deficit of SEK 100 or more can bring a reminder, while a deficit of SEK 2,000 or more can bring a demand. If the SEK 2,000 deficit remains at the next reconciliation, the debt is sent to Kronofogden. Kronofogden warns that unpaid residual tax can also add a SEK 600 fee and may lead to a payment remark.
