Airlines must explain compensation rights within four days from October 2027

Airlines will have to tell passengers who may qualify for compensation how to claim it within 96 hours of the end of their journey. The new EU duty applies from 23 October 2027, so it does not change the information passengers must receive today.
The regulation, published on 2 October, requires the operating airline to send the information electronically in a form passengers can retain. It must explain the right to compensation and give clear instructions for making a claim.
The notice requirement covers passengers who may be entitled to compensation under the regulation’s cancellation, delay or missed-connection provisions. It is a duty to explain potential rights, not a promise that every disrupted passenger will receive money.
The rules are directly applicable across EU member states, including Sweden. Travellers should keep the October 2027 application date in mind when assessing what an airline owes them under this new provision.
