Ethiopian youth squad vanishes after Gothia Cup

Around 20 people from an Ethiopian youth football team were reported missing after the 2026 Gothia Cup in Gothenburg. The group included players around 16 years old and one or more leaders.

Gothia Cup press officer Fredrik Beckman told Sveriges Radio that organisers contacted police after the team left its accommodation without informing tournament staff. The cup ran from 12 to 18 July, with the final day designated for teams' departure.

Sveriges Radio published the report on 28 July. The group's whereabouts and reasons for leaving were not established in the published account.
