E45 shut after Strömsund bridge damaged by heavy transport

The E45 bridge in Strömsund is completely closed after damage during a heavy transport made the crossing unusable. Police say nobody was injured, but travellers face a prolonged closure.

The police update says officers, rescue crews and an ambulance attended after an alarm at 23:24 on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, police had confirmed there were no injuries.

Police relay Trafikverket’s assessment that the bridge will remain closed for a longer period. The road authority lists 30 October as a preliminary end date; that is not a confirmed reopening promise.

Police are investigating suspected workplace safety offences and causing danger to others. They say there is currently no suspect. Officers have interviewed witnesses, and technicians are due to document the scene.

Once the vehicle has been moved to safe ground, police plan to weigh it to check for possible overloading. No removal time has been announced.
