Nooshi Dadgostar says the Left Party would go into full opposition if Centre joins a government dependent on the Sweden Democrats, warning that a change of sides would betray Centre’s voters.

In a statement to SVT on Sunday, the Left Party leader called that outcome a “historic betrayal”. She said Centre would then need active SD support to avoid losing parliamentary contests against the red-green parties.

Her warning puts the focus on how a new government would secure votes after taking office, as well as which parties would hold ministerial posts.

Centre asked on Friday for complete governing proposals from both Magdalena Andersson and Ulf Kristersson. Each must set out policy, cooperating parties and how reforms would win support in parliament.

Centre says its promises still apply: it opposes Left Party ministers and a government cooperating with SD. It has asked Andersson to demonstrate a route without the Left Party in cabinet, and Kristersson to explain how he would prevent SD dictating terms.

Dadgostar’s response signals that Centre could not count on the Left Party to ease the parliamentary path of a right-wing government dependent on SD.
