Centre MEP gets role in EU carbon-market negotiations
Centre Party MEP Emma Wiesner has been assigned to negotiate Renew Europe's position on the European Commission's proposed overhaul of the EU Emissions Trading System, according to her party.

The role puts a Swedish lawmaker directly into the European Parliament's work on rules covering much of Europe's industrial emissions. Parliament's official profile confirms that Wiesner represents the Centre Party in Renew Europe and sits on the environment committee.
Wiesner said she would resist any reduction in climate ambition and seek predictable rules for companies investing in electrification and fossil-free production. The Centre Party says she is the only Swedish MEP among the negotiators and expects the process to take about a year.
The Commission presented its proposal on Friday as a package intended to support competitiveness and investment. Sweden's government has separately criticised slower allowance reductions and longer free allocation for established industries.
No rules change immediately. The European Parliament and member states must establish their positions and negotiate a final text before a revised system can take effect.
