Payment fault sends some child benefits by voucher

Some families will receive child benefit and maintenance support by payment voucher instead of into their bank accounts after a fault in Försäkringskassan’s system.

The agency says affected recipients have been sent an automatic letter asking them to register their account details. Anyone who has already registered an account can ignore that request: Försäkringskassan still holds the details and says they do not need to be submitted again.

People using Kivra should already have received the letter; others will receive it by post. The agency is working to correct the fault before the next payment in November.

Vouchers are sent two banking days before the normal payment date. When they arrive depends on postal handling, so the notice does not promise delivery on the usual payday.

Försäkringskassan says redeeming a voucher digitally through Swedbank’s e-service is free. Redemption in a shop, at a bank branch or through Swish carries a fee.

The notice covers some payments of barnbidrag, or child benefit, and underhållsstöd, the maintenance support administered by the agency. It does not say how many recipients are affected.
