Göta Court of Appeal has increased a former senior Växjö politician's prison sentence from three to four years for gross violation of a woman's integrity, SVT reports.
The appeal court changed parts of the lower court's assessment of which individual acts were proven while imposing the longer sentence. The district court had described repeated violence and threats over several years, including a large number of acts against a woman in a vulnerable and partly dependent position.
The investigation began after the woman contacted police. According to SVT, photographs she had taken of injuries and secret audio recordings formed part of the evidence.
The man has denied committing crimes and asked the appeal court to acquit him, arguing that objective external evidence was lacking. The prosecutor and the woman also appealed, seeking findings of guilt on additional counts as well as a longer sentence and higher damages. SVT did not identify the former politician in its report.
