Magdalena Andersson has been given until Tuesday, 13 October, to report on her efforts to form Sweden's next government, after asking the Speaker to move Monday's deadline.

Speaker Andreas Norlén will meet the Social Democratic leader at 11:00 on Tuesday, Parliament announced on Sunday. He will then consult the deputy speakers about the next stage of the process.

The extra day leaves the central cabinet dispute unresolved. The Left Party wants ministerial posts, while the Centre Party opposes a government containing Left ministers. Friday's four-party meeting did not address that disagreement, TV4 reported.

Social Democratic sources told TV4 they expected Andersson to seek further time. Her spokesperson gave the broadcaster no new announcement about Tuesday's report.

Norlén said on 2 October that a prime-minister vote would follow the end of the exploratory assignment. Sunday's announcement sets the reporting meeting but gives no date for a vote.
