A Swedish payslip usually starts with gross salary, then removes preliminary tax and other deductions before showing the amount paid to your account. The net amount is useful, but the lines above it are where mistakes are easier to catch.

Check your personal details, tax table, employment percentage and pay period first. If those are wrong, the rest of the slip may be wrong too. Then look for holiday pay, overtime, sick leave, parental leave or benefits such as meals, travel or wellness allowance.

Occupational pension may appear on a separate statement rather than the payslip itself. If you are covered by a collective agreement, ask your employer where that information is shown. It is part of your compensation, even when it does not land in your bank account today.

Keep your first few payslips. They are useful for bank meetings, apartment applications and tax questions.
